Tom Murphy has been carving wood and stone for over 35 years. He started carving chalk in school as a boy and moved into carving on wood but prefers the entire process involved in carving stone. Similar to traditional carvers, much of Tom’s work is done by hand using chisels, gouges and files on soft stone like soapstone, serpentine and chlorite, rather than by power grinders.
